Animal Physiotherapy is an emerging and rapidly growing profession in Australia.
Brooke Marsh is a human Physiotherapist and a qualified Animal Physiotherapist (she completed her Masters of Animal Physiotherapy 2005) and has always had a passion and affinity for animals.
Physiotherapists use a wide variety of techniques to relieve pain and improve function. Using ‘hands-on’ techniques it possible to get the animal moving as well as possible, relieve pain, then stabilise and strengthen to ensure prevention of recurring injuries. A home program is very important to maintain the condition in between sessions.
Brooke specialises in ‘hands-on’ treatment including mobilisation, massage, stretches, acupuncture, electrotherapy, balance and stability training, movement re-education and underwater treadmill training. She takes the time to make the dog comfortable with treatment in a positive environment.
The underwater treadmill is used in the physiotherapy sessions as an ideal environment to improve muscle stability and strength without undue strain on the joints. This can be used in very early stages of rehabilitation and post surgery.
