Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation

We are dedicated to helping your pet have a better life by offering physiotherapy and pain management treatment. Whilst these treatments often start in hospital they can be performed on an outpatient basis, on referral from your regular veterinarian.

Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation promotes a faster rate of healing from injuries and surgery but can also be beneficial to geriatric patients, patients with arthritis and patients with other chronic conditions. Therapy may also be helpful to improve the performance of dogs that work, compete in sports or want to enjoy an active lifestyle.

Our physio and rehab team is headed by Katrinka Geelen. Katrinka entered the veterinary industry in 2006 as a veterinary nurse, with a keen interest in animal rehabilitation. This passion led to the pursuit of a career in human physiotherapy, with the intention of transferring her physiotherapy skills to animal care. She worked for over 8 years as a senior physiotherapist in a variety of roles, in particular acute inpatient care and rehabilitation.

Katrinka made the transition to animal physiotherapy in 2017, spending the last three years working as an Animal Physiotherapist in Sydney at the Small Animal Specialist Hospital (SASH) until recently relocating to the Sunshine Coast.

New Patients

Each patient receives a thorough physical examination and physiotherapy assessment prior to planning a customized rehabilitation plan.  The initial assessment may include measurements of joint range of motion, muscle mass, body conditioning scoring and lameness scoring.

New clients can expect to have an in-depth discussion of pertinent medical and surgical history, to given the rehabilitation team a complete understanding of the patient’s health status.  After completing the initial assessment, our team will discuss goals for the patient and the proposed rehabilitation plan.  Our rehabilitation plans incorporate a holistic approach.  We consider all the potential health issues and routinely discuss topics such as pain management and optimal diet.

The staff were extremely compassionate tonight when we brought our cat to them in a very bad way. Sadly we had to say goodbye to our precious girl. They were amazing and went above and beyond to support us in every way possible.

I can’t thank Dr Naomi enough for her dedication and professionalism when it came to saving my girl all the while still having such a humble attitude which made the process that bit easier. I would also like to thank the nurses behind the scenes...thanks to this team, can’t recommend them enough.

Couldn’t recommend them highly enough. Our Daschund has had issues with his neck and back for the past 6 weeks, we were referred to them by a friend, got our referral by our local vet. Friendly professional staff and service !!!! A big thank you to Dr Richard for explaining everything to us in layman’s terms and making us feel relaxed and comfortable.
